February 2022
Abby Kennemer
Abby Kennemer, a senior from Hays, Kansas, is one of our February Students of the Month. She is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Minor in Psychology. Abby chose Leadership Studies because Dr. Seth Kastle spoke about the Leadership Studies Certificate in a gen ed course. Abby's favorite class has been LDRS 670 Leadership and Personal Development with Dr. Donnette Noble. Abby plays the trumpet in the Tiger Marching Band, Tiger Pep Band, FHSU Jazz I, FHSU Symphonic Winds, and FHSU Wind Ensemble and is the Trumpet Section Leader for the Tiger Marching Band. Congratulations, Abby!
Niassa HarrisWazoua
Niassa Harris Wazoua, a West Palm Beach, Florida junior, is our February Student of the Month. She is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership. Niassa chose Leadership studies after having the privilege of being a student research assistant that focused on the lived experiences of women leaders who identify as BIPOC. During her research, Niassa was inspired by the different women leaders she had learned about and wanted to join their ranks. Niassa's favorite class has been LDRS 310 because it has given her a platform to develop her service-learning project. Niassa is involved in the Fort Hays Honor Society and the Black Student Union. Outside of school, Niassa enjoys baking, dancing, and being a mom of two. Congratulations, Niassa!
Trisha Sylvester
Trisha Sylvester, a master's student from Washington, Utah, is our February Student of the Month. She is in her second year of pursuing a Master of Professional Studies: in Organizational Leadership. Trisha got involved with Leadership Programs after a conversation with Dr. Brent Goertzen. She chose the program because it focused on the HUMAN side of an organization and provided her with opportunities to engage with others through the field of leadership. Trisha's favorite classes have been LDRS 801 and LDRS 802 because they have given her a solid foundation for everything she has been exposed to in leadership studies. She has been involved in the FHSU virtual senate and is active in her church and local high school. Trisha enjoys cooking, working in her yard, going to car shows, and spending time with her furry friends Sophie, a Silky Terrier, and Ace, a teacup Yorkie. Congratulations, Trisha!
